A RESOLUTION

  

1

Congratulating Villanova University and its women's varsity

2

cross country team for winning the 2009 National Collegiate

3

Athletic Association Division I Women's Cross Country

4

Championship on November 23, 2009, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

5

WHEREAS, Moving from the fifth seeded women's cross country

6

team in the country as its season began to the second seed by

7

season's end, Villanova University's women's cross country team

8

won the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I

9

Women's Cross Country Championship on November 23, 2009, in

10

Terre Haute, Indiana; and 

11

WHEREAS, The Villanova Wildcat women's cross country team has

12

a tradition of winning national championships, having won eight

13

championships in the past, with its most recent title coming in

14

1998; and

WHEREAS, The team was paced by Sheila Reid, Amanda Marino,

2

Bogdana Mimic, Ali Smith and Nicole Schappert, who all earned

3

All-American honors at the NCAA Championships, the first time in

4

program history that all five scoring runners finished as All-

5

Americans; and

6

WHEREAS, Former Villanova running star Gina Procaccio has

7

coached the university's women's cross country team since 2000;

8

and

9

WHEREAS, The accomplishments of this outstanding athletic

10

team adds to the total of Villanova's 17 national championships,

11

including one in football earned on December 18, 2009; therefore

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate

14

Villanova University and its women's varsity cross country team

15

for winning the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association

16

Division I Women's Cross Country Championship on November 23,

17

2009, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
