A RESOLUTION

Designating the period of October 2009 through January 2010 as

2

"H1N1 Virus Awareness Season" in Pennsylvania and encouraging

3

all Pennsylvanians to receive the H1N1 vaccine.

WHEREAS, The rapid spreading of the H1N1 virus, also known as

5

swine flu, beginning in April 2009, has caused the World Health

6

Organization to declare the H1N1 virus as the reason for the

7

current flu pandemic; and

8

WHEREAS, In swift response to this pandemic the Federal

9

Government has developed a highly ambitious plan to immunize at

10

least half of the United States population, which will allow for

11

containment of the spread of H1N1 in the nation throughout the

12

upcoming flu season; and

13

WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

14

has provided substantial guidance to State and local public

15

health officials for adequately implementing vaccination plans;

16

and

17

WHEREAS, Children, young adults and pregnant women have been

18

determined to be the groups most susceptible to contracting H1N1

and have been given priority for receiving the vaccine; and

2

WHEREAS, The CDC urges all individuals, in addition to

3

receiving their regular seasonal flu vaccine, to receive the

4

H1N1 vaccine; therefore be it

5

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

6

period of October 2009 through January 2010 as "H1N1 Virus

7

Awareness Season" in Pennsylvania and encourage all

8

Pennsylvanians to receive the H1N1 vaccine.
