A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of June 2009 as the "Month of Peace and

2

Reconciliation" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The only way to take back our streets from crime,

4

drugs, violence and other serious issues is with a coordinated

5

and systematic effort which includes individuals, grass-roots

6

organizations, faith-based organizations, peace activists and

7

law enforcement and government officials of all levels; and

8

WHEREAS, These groups must work together to send a clear

9

message to all the residents of political subdivisions, this

10

Commonwealth and this nation that we are mobilizing, that we are

11

unifying the people and the resources available to us and that

12

we are ready to tackle these issues; and 

13

WHEREAS, Only in this way, by working together, can we

14

initiate real change, shift attention away from unimportant

15

distractions and bring the focus back to the shared problems

16

which all of us face in every region of this great nation; and

WHEREAS, If we start now, we can slowly reverse the downward

2

spirals in our communities and begin to build solid nurturing

3

foundations in the neighborhoods where we live, work, play, go

4

to school and raise our families, and we can pay respect to all

5

our citizens, both young and old; and

6

WHEREAS, These serious issues affect all of us, regardless of

7

race, religion, ancestry, age, sex, national origin or

8

disability; and

9

WHEREAS, Only by overcoming these self-imposed boundaries and

10

working together will we ever see our world change for the

11

better; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

13

month of June 2009 as the "Month of Peace and Reconciliation" in

14

Pennsylvania.
