A RESOLUTION

Designating May 9, 2009, as "Stamp Out Hunger Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, On May 9, 2009, letter carriers of the United States

4

Postal Service in more than 10,000 cities and towns across this

5

nation will deliver the mail and collect non-perishable food

6

donations from their postal customers; and

7

WHEREAS, This food drive celebrates its 17th anniversary and

8

is the largest one-day food drive in the country; and

9

WHEREAS, In 2008, the food drive collected more than 73

10

million pounds of food for people who are needy; and

11

WHEREAS, This effort by letter carriers of the National

12

Association of Letter Carriers AFL-CIO, with the help of rural

13

letter carriers and other postal employees and numerous other

volunteers, has resulted in the delivery of nearly one billion

2

pounds of donations to community food banks over the past 16

3

years; therefore be it

4

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 9,

5

2009, as "Stamp Out Hunger Day" in Pennsylvania.
