| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating the Claysville Interchange of Exit 6 on Interstate | <-- |
2 | 70 in Washington County as the Sergeant Nathan P. Kennedy |
3 | Memorial Interchange. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. Declaration of policy. |
7 | The General Assembly finds and declares as follows: |
8 | (1) Sergeant Nathan P. Kennedy, 24, from Claysville, |
9 | Washington County, died on April 27, 2010, from injuries |
10 | sustained when he was tragically shot while on foot patrol |
11 | with the United States Army in Afghanistan. |
12 | (2) Having recently reenlisted for another four years, |
13 | Sergeant Kennedy was killed just three weeks shy of the date |
14 | he was expected to return home from his second tour of duty, |
15 | the first having been in Iraq. |
16 | (3) Sergeant Kennedy was a United States Army Ranger, |
17 | serving as a sniper assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th |
18 | Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division |

1 | based at Fort Carson, Colorado. |
2 | (4) A 2004 graduate of McGuffey High School, Sergeant |
3 | Kennedy was a three-time section wrestling champion. |
4 | (5) Sergeant Kennedy was a loving son, brother, |
5 | grandson, nephew and friend who served his country with |
6 | devotion and pride. |
7 | (6) Sergeant Kennedy, beloved son of Joseph Kennedy and |
8 | the late Penelope Henry Kennedy, courageously sacrificed his |
9 | life to protect his country. |
10 | Section 2. Sergeant Nathan P. Kennedy Memorial Interchange. |
11 | (a) Designation.--The interchange of Exit 6 on Interstate 70 | <-- |
12 | in Claysville, Washington County, in both directions, is |
13 | designated as the Sergeant Nathan P. Kennedy Memorial |
14 | Interchange. |
15 | (b) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall, in |
16 | appropriate locations, erect and maintain appropriate signs |
17 | displaying the name designated under subsection (a). |
18 | Section 3. Effective date. |
19 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
