| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Selecting, designating and adopting the cheese steak as the |
2 | official sandwich of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. |
3 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
4 | hereby finds and declares as follows: |
5 | WHEREAS, The cheese steak made its official debut in 1930 |
6 | when a South Philadelphia hot dog vendor decided to put some |
7 | beef from the butcher on his grill. |
8 | WHEREAS, A cheese steak is a long, crusty roll filled with |
9 | thinly sliced sauteed ribeye beef and melted cheese. |
10 | WHEREAS, The cheese of choice is Cheez Whiz, but American and |
11 | Provolone are common substitutions. |
12 | WHEREAS, Other toppings may include fried onions, sauteed |
13 | mushrooms, ketchup and hot or sweet peppers. |
14 | WHEREAS, The art of cheese steak preparation lies in the |
15 | balance of flavors, textures and what is often referred to as |
16 | the "drip" factor. |
17 | WHEREAS, Cheese steaks are fast, portable and readily |

1 | available at steak shops, delis, food trucks, pizzerias and even |
2 | some high-end restaurants throughout this Commonwealth. |
3 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
4 | hereby enacts as follows: |
5 | Section 1. Official State Sandwich. |
6 | The cheese steak is hereby selected, designated and adopted |
7 | as the official sandwich of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. |
8 | Section 2. Effective date. |
9 | This act shall take effect immediately. |
