AN ACT

Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

Statutes, in registration of vehicles, providing for In the

3

Line of Duty plate.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

7

Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:

8

§ 1366.  In the Line of Duty plate.

9

(a)  General rule.--The department shall design a special In

10

the Line of Duty registration plate. Upon application of a

11

family member of a police officer, fire or rescue personnel or

12

an emergency medical services worker who was killed while in the

13

line of duty, accompanied by a fee of $20 which shall be in

14

addition to the annual registration fee and by such

15

documentation as the department shall require, the department

16

shall issue to the family member a special registration plate

designating the vehicle so licensed as belonging to a family

2

member of a person who was killed while in the line of duty. The

3

special registration plate may be used only on a passenger car

4

or truck with a registered gross weight of not more than 10,000

5

pounds.

(b)  Documentation required.--An applicant for an In the Line

7

of Duty plate shall certify on a form approved by the department

8

that the applicant is a family member of a person who was killed

9

while in the line of duty.

(c)  Definition.--As used in this section, the term "family

11

member" means any of the following persons related to a

12

decedent:

13

(1)  Widow.

14

(2)  Widower.

15

(3)  Mother.

16

(4)  Father.

17

(5)  Stepmother.

18

(6)  Stepfather.

19

(7)  Mother through adoption.

20

(8)  Father through adoption.

21

(9)  Foster mother in loco parentis.

22

(10)  Foster father in loco parentis.

23

(11)  Son.

24

(12)  Daughter.

25

(13)  Stepson.

26

(14)  Stepdaughter.

27

(15)  Son by adoption.

28

(16)  Daughter by adoption.

29

(17)  Brother.

30

(18)  Sister.

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
