AN ACT

Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An

2

act relating to the public school system, including certain

3

provisions applicable as well to private and parochial

4

schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the

5

laws relating thereto," in terms and courses of study,

6

providing for State standards for business, computer and

7

information technology courses.

The General Assembly finds and declares as follows:

9

(1)  Business, computer and information technology (BCIT)

10

courses provide students with the skills necessary for

11

postsecondary and career success.

12

(2)  BCIT courses include, but are not limited to,

13

business communication, international business, marketing,

14

management, business law, accounting, career development,

15

economics, personal finance, computation, entrepreneurship

16

and information systems.

(3)  BCIT instructors throughout this Commonwealth can

18

better provide consistent, quality courses if State standards

19

are in place.

(4)  Businesses in this Commonwealth can benefit from a

2

workforce that has access to quality BCIT courses.

(5)  BCIT instructors have requested State standards

4

around which to build a more rigorous and relevant BCIT

5

curriculum.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

7

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known

9

as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a

10

section to read:

Section 1551.  State Standards for Business, Computer and

12

Information Technology Courses.--The Secretary of Education

13

shall establish State standards for business, computer and

14

information technology courses as provided in 22 Pa. Code § 4.32

15

(relating to standards and reports) no later than June 30, 2010.

16

Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
