AN ACT

Amending Title 24 (Education) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

2

Statutes, further providing for creditable nonschool service.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

4

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  The definition of "maternity leave of absence" in

6

section 8102 of Title 24 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

7

Statutes is amended to read:

§ 8102.  Definitions.

9

The following words and phrases when used in this part shall

10

have, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the

11

meanings given to them in this section:

"Maternity leave of absence."  [An involuntary leave of

14

absence required by the employer because of the pregnancy of the

15

member and commencing prior to May 17, 1975.] A leave of absence

because of the pregnancy of the member.

Section 2.  Section 8304(b)(7) of Title 24 is amended by

4

adding a subparagraph to read:

§ 8304.  Creditable nonschool service.

(b)  Limitations on nonschool service.--Creditable nonschool

8

service credit shall be limited to:

(iii)  Service for the period of time spent on a

12

maternity leave of absence, which creditable service

13

shall not exceed two years per leave and shall be

14

applicable to a maternity leave that began on or after

15

November 1, 1978.

Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
