        INTRODUCED BY HUGHES, FONTANA, ORIE, TARTAGLIONE, O'PAKE, MUSTO,
           A. WILLIAMS, C. WILLIAMS, FUMO, COSTA, FERLO, LOGAN,
           WASHINGTON, BAKER, EARLL, BOSCOLA, ERICKSON, GREENLEAF,
           DINNIMAN, STACK AND KITCHEN, JUNE 9, 2008

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, JUNE 9, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing June 10, 2008, as "Patient Advocate Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Access to appropriate health care when disease
     4  strikes is essential to well-being for all individuals; and
     5     WHEREAS, A patient diagnosed with a serious illness should be
     6  able to access medical treatment and survive the financial
     7  hardship of illness; and
     8     WHEREAS, A patient who receives a serious diagnosis should be
     9  able to have relevant clinical information, timely and sustained
    10  health care and intervention and the opportunity to effectively
    11  reach well-informed and independent decisions; and
    12     WHEREAS, Health information technology, including the
    13  utilization of electronic medical records, can provide both the
    14  patient and his physician with timely access to necessary
    15  information; and
    16     WHEREAS, The continued, comprehensive, cooperative and
    17  collaborative action of government, private industry, health

     1  care providers, volunteers and citizens can help overcome the
     2  obstacles to the complexities of the health care system during a
     3  serious illness; therefore be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize June 10, 2008, as
     5  "Patient Advocate Day" in Pennsylvania.
