A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing June 10, 2008, as "Patient Advocate Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Access to appropriate health care when disease 4 strikes is essential to well-being for all individuals; and 5 WHEREAS, A patient diagnosed with a serious illness should be 6 able to access medical treatment and survive the financial 7 hardship of illness; and 8 WHEREAS, A patient who receives a serious diagnosis should be 9 able to have relevant clinical information, timely and sustained 10 health care and intervention and the opportunity to effectively 11 reach well-informed and independent decisions; and 12 WHEREAS, Health information technology, including the 13 utilization of electronic medical records, can provide both the 14 patient and his physician with timely access to necessary 15 information; and 16 WHEREAS, The continued, comprehensive, cooperative and 17 collaborative action of government, private industry, health
1 care providers, volunteers and citizens can help overcome the 2 obstacles to the complexities of the health care system during a 3 serious illness; therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize June 10, 2008, as 5 "Patient Advocate Day" in Pennsylvania. F3L82MSP/20080S0342R2143 - 2 -
