           REGOLA, FONTANA, WOZNIAK, O'PAKE, FUMO, C. WILLIAMS, RHOADES,
           TARTAGLIONE, PILEGGI, SCARNATI, COSTA, FERLO, LOGAN,
           BRUBAKER, GREENLEAF, KASUNIC, LAVALLE, PIPPY, WAUGH, EARLL,
           WONDERLING, BOSCOLA, FOLMER, McILHINNEY AND ERICKSON,

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, MAY 14, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Remembering the sacrifices of the brave men and women in our
     2     armed forces as Memorial Day approaches.

     3     WHEREAS, Each May, Americans mark Memorial Day to grieve the
     4  loss of soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines who were killed in
     5  battle and celebrate the freedoms and rights they gained for us
     6  through their sacrifices; and
     7     WHEREAS, Since 1776, the roll call of the fallen heroes has
     8  climbed to well over one million people; and
     9     WHEREAS, When it comes to military service, this Commonwealth
    10  has given more than its share in sweat and blood; and
    11     WHEREAS, The willingness of the men and women of this
    12  Commonwealth to answer the call to duty is made clear by the
    13  number of veterans living in communities across Pennsylvania;
    14  and
    15     WHEREAS, We honor American patriots who put their lives on
    16  the line to win this nation's independence more than two

     1  centuries ago, the American brothers who fought one another over
     2  the struggle for liberty and freedom during the Civil War, and
     3  the hundreds of thousands of brave men and women who fought to
     4  defend our freedom all over the world throughout America's
     5  history; and
     6     WHEREAS, Memorial Day provides a time to remember with
     7  reverence those who fought to bring us peace on terms that
     8  enable us to live as residents of the greatest nation in the
     9  world with civil liberties envied and emulated by nations around
    10  the globe; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the Senate join all citizens of this
    12  Commonwealth in remembering the sacrifices that have been made
    13  by those who came before us, so that we may enjoy the freedoms
    14  we have today, and let us honor our veterans and pay tribute to
    15  them on Memorial Day and all year round.
