A RESOLUTION 1 Urging the citizens of this Commonwealth to participate in the 2 In Case of Emergency campaign by entering information, under 3 the acronym of ICE, into the memory of their cellular phones 4 in order to assist medical and other emergency personnel in 5 contacting designated persons in the case of an emergency. 6 WHEREAS, Every year there are hundreds of thousands of 7 emergency room patients who are unable to provide contact 8 information because they are incapacitated; and 9 WHEREAS, There are millions of cell phones in the United 10 States, and they are accessories that most people have with them 11 at all times; and 12 WHEREAS, The addition of an emergency contact number in a 13 person's cell phone memory under the heading ICE (In Case of 14 Emergency) enables paramedics and police to contact designated 15 persons or obtain medical information in an emergency; and 16 WHEREAS, ICE is the brainchild of a British ambulance service 17 paramedic, and the campaign for its use has rapidly spread
1 throughout the world as a particular consequence of the 2 terrorist attacks in London; and 3 WHEREAS, In addition to medical history bracelets and 4 identification cards, ICE is a resource for first responders and 5 emergency professionals in the event of an emergency; therefore 6 be it 7 RESOLVED, That the Senate urge the citizens of this 8 Commonwealth to participate in the In Case of Emergency campaign 9 by entering information, under the acronym of ICE, into the 10 memory of their cellular phones in order to assist medical and 11 other emergency personnel in contacting designated persons in 12 the case of an emergency.
