A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the week of March 9 through 15, 2008, as "Girl Scout 2 Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Throughout the towns, cities and rural areas of this 4 Commonwealth, more than 150,000 girls are developing self- 5 confidence, self-esteem, discipline and sensitivity through 6 their participation in Girl Scouts; and 7 WHEREAS, For 95 years, Girl Scouting has inspired millions of 8 girls and women throughout our nation with the highest ideals of 9 character, conduct and patriotism, making Girl Scouts of the 10 United States of America the largest organization for girls in 11 the world; and 12 WHEREAS, A girl's education is enhanced and enriched by her 13 Girl Scout experience, and Girl Scouting takes an active role in 14 increasing the interest and skill levels of today's youth in 15 science and technology to fulfill our country's economic needs; 16 and
1 WHEREAS, Girl Scout troops have been led by volunteers who 2 have donated their time and expertise, leading troops, serving 3 on boards and councils and providing stewardship for the 4 organization, which makes it possible for any girl, regardless 5 of race, religion or socioeconomic circumstances, to become a 6 Girl Scout; and 7 WHEREAS, Twelve Girl Scout councils are incorporated in this 8 Commonwealth for the purpose of extending membership and 9 managing Girl Scout programs and properties for the benefit of 10 Girl Scouts and their families in every county of this 11 Commonwealth; and 12 WHEREAS, Each young woman who makes and lives by the Girl 13 Scout Promise: 14 On my honor, I will try: 15 To serve God and my country, 16 To help people at all times, 17 And to live by the Girl Scout Law, 18 will be among the leaders of this Commonwealth in the 21st 19 century; and 20 WHEREAS, In helping to motivate, educate and inspire these 21 girls, the Girl Scout movement enriches the quality of life for 22 all citizens of this Commonwealth; therefore be it 23 RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of March 9 24 through 15, 2008, as "Girl Scout Week" in Pennsylvania.
