SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 152 Session of 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing with great sadness the supreme sacrifice of Army
     2     Sergeant First Class Raymond R. Buchan, who died from enemy
     3     fire on July 1, 2007, while courageously serving our nation
     4     in Iraq.

     5     WHEREAS, Army Sergeant First Class Raymond R. Buchan died
     6  from wounds sustained from enemy gunfire on July 1, 2007, in
     7  Ta'meem, Iraq, paying the supreme sacrifice for our nation in
     8  Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
     9     WHEREAS, Sgt. Buchan, 33, was assigned to the 1st Battalion,
    10  18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry
    11  Division, based in Schweinfurt, Germany; and
    12     WHEREAS, A native of Johnstown, Sgt. Buchan was an
    13  outstanding athlete at Westmont Hilltop High School, where he
    14  played basketball and football before graduation in 1991, and he
    15  played in the Ken Lantzy Finest 40 All-Star Football Game in the
    16  summer following his graduation; and
    17     WHEREAS, Sgt. Buchan then entered the Army, where he served
    18  for 16 years before his tragic death; and


     1     WHEREAS, In the fall of 2006 Sgt. Buchan was redeployed to
     2  Iraq from Schweinfurt; and
     3     WHEREAS, Sgt. Buchan is survived by his wife, Laura, a native
     4  of Erie; by their two sons, Hayden and Andrew; by his parents,
     5  Carol Jean and Richard Buchan, of Southmont; and by his brother,
     6  Philip; and
     7     WHEREAS, The Senate wishes to honor Sgt. Buchan posthumously
     8  for his courageous service to our nation; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize with great sadness the
    10  supreme sacrifice of Army Sergeant First Class Raymond R.
    11  Buchan, who died on July 1, 2007, while courageously serving our
    12  nation in Iraq.
