A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of April 23 through 30, 2007, as 2 "Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers' 3 Entrepreneurs Week" in Pennsylvania. 4 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania entrepreneurs set a model of business 5 excellence through their innovation, hard work and adaptability; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania entrepreneurs often play a vital role 8 in raising the quality of life in communities throughout this 9 Commonwealth by providing high-quality jobs, helping to sustain 10 a robust local economy and ensuring that Pennsylvania products 11 stand out in the world marketplace; and 12 WHEREAS, Small businesses create two-thirds of the new jobs 13 in the United States; and 14 WHEREAS, Established in 1980, Pennsylvania's Small Business 15 Development Centers help to grow the economy of this 16 Commonwealth by providing entrepreneurs with the education,
1 information and tools necessary to build successful businesses; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, Since their inception, Pennsylvania's Small Business 4 Development Centers have evolved into a network of 18 5 university-based centers and more than 90 outreach locations; 6 and 7 WHEREAS, The 18 university-based centers are located at 8 Bucknell University, Clarion University, Duquesne University, 9 Gannon University, Indiana University, Kutztown University, 10 Lehigh University, Lock Haven University, The Pennsylvania State 11 University, Saint Francis University, Saint Vincent College, 12 Shippensburg University, Temple University, University of 13 Pittsburgh, University of Scranton, Wharton School, Widener 14 University and Wilkes University; and 15 WHEREAS, Since 1990, Pennsylvania's Small Business 16 Development Centers have helped Pennsylvania entrepreneurs start 17 more than 22,000 new businesses, obtain $1.8 billion in start-up 18 and expansion funding, expand sales by $8.1 billion, including 19 $1.9 billion in government contracts and $1 billion in export 20 sales, create more than 97,800 new jobs at an average cost of 21 $715 per job and generate more than $738 million in new tax 22 revenues; and 23 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania system of Small Business 24 Development Centers is recognizing this Commonwealth's most 25 outstanding entrepreneurs for their ingenuity and their ability 26 to thrive in a global economy during the 13th Annual Client 27 Exposition on Tuesday, April 24, 2007; therefore be it 28 RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of April 23 29 through 30, 2007, as "Pennsylvania Small Business Development 30 Centers' Entrepreneurs Week" in Pennsylvania.
