A RESOLUTION 1 Urging the Congress of the United States to pass a 2 constitutional amendment to ban the burning or desecration of 3 the United States flag. 4 WHEREAS, The United States flag embodies the spirit of our 5 nation and is widely deemed to be a venerated and sacred object 6 of our nation wherever it is displayed; and 7 WHEREAS, Some citizens desecrate the United States flag by 8 burning it in public; and 9 WHEREAS, Most Americans disapprove of flag burning and other 10 forms of desecration of this revered national symbol; and 11 WHEREAS, Flag burning and desecration is not a form of 12 speech, but is an act that is considered offensive, is 13 disrespectful to veterans, tends to incite violence and is anti- 14 American; and 15 WHEREAS, An amendment to the Constitution of the United 16 States is necessary to ban burning and desecration of the United 17 States flag; therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 2 urge the Congress to pass a constitutional amendment to ban the 3 burning or desecration of the United States flag; and be it 4 further 5 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 6 the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each 7 member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
