AN ACT 1 Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the 2 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, providing for notice of 3 convictions of college students. 4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 5 hereby enacts as follows: 6 Section 1. Title 42 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 7 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read: 8 § 1524. Notice of convictions of college students. 9 (a) Notice.--Except as provided under subsection (b), a 10 magisterial district judge shall provide written notice to an 11 educational institution of a conviction of any crime committed 12 by a college student attending the educational institution. This 13 subsection shall only apply to a crime that occurs in the host 14 community in which the educational institution is located. 15 (b) Exception.--A magisterial district judge is not required 16 to provide notice, as provided under subsection (a), where the 17 criminal violation involves a summary offense for a traffic 18 violation under 75 Pa.C.S. (relating to vehicles).
1 (c) Definitions.--As used in this section, the following 2 words and phrases shall have the meanings given to them in this 3 subsection: 4 "Community college." An institution created under Article 5 XIX-A of the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the 6 Public School Code of 1949, or the former act of August 24, 1963 7 (P.L.1132, No.484), known as the Community College Act of 1963. 8 "Educational institution." A State-owned institution, State- 9 related institution or community college located in this 10 Commonwealth. 11 "Host community." The borough, city, incorporated town or 12 township where the educational institution is located. The term 13 shall include any adjacent community where off-campus student 14 housing owned by or affiliated with the educational institution 15 is located. 16 "State-owned institution." Any institution that is part of 17 the State System of Higher Education under Article XX-A of the 18 act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public 19 School Code of 1949. 20 "State-related institution." The Pennsylvania State 21 University, the University of Pittsburgh, Temple University and 22 Lincoln University and their branch campuses. 23 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
