AN ACT
1 Amending the act of October 10, 1975 (P.L.383, No.110), entitled
2 "An act relating to the practice of physical therapy,"
3 further providing for physical therapist assistants.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 9.1(c) of the act of October 10, 1975
7 (P.L.383, No.110), known as the Physical Therapy Practice Act,
8 added December 20, 1985 (P.L.500, No.117), is amended and the
9 section is amended by adding a subsection to read:
10 Section 9.1. Physical Therapist Assistant; Education and
11 Examination; Scope of Duties; Registration.--* * *
12 (c) [A] Except as provided in subsection (c.1), a physical
13 therapist assistant while assisting a licensed physical
14 therapist in the practice of physical therapy shall only perform
15 patient-related physical therapy acts and services that are
16 assigned or delegated by and under the direct on-premises
17 supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Such acts and
18 services of a physical therapist assistant shall not include
1 evaluation, testing, interpretation, planning or modification of 2 patient programs. For purposes of this section the term "direct 3 on-premises supervision" shall mean the physical presence of a 4 licensed physical therapist on the premises who is immediately 5 available to exercise supervision, direction and control. 6 (c.1) A physical therapist assistant while assisting a 7 licensed physical therapist in the practice of physical therapy 8 may perform patient-related physical therapy acts and services 9 that are assigned or delegated by and under the supervision of a 10 licensed physical therapist in the residence of a patient or in 11 a licensed health care facility where the patient has been 12 admitted. Such acts and services of a physical therapist 13 assistant shall not include evaluation, testing, interpretation, 14 planning or modification of patient programs. Patient-related 15 physical therapy acts and services under this section shall be 16 delegated only by a licensed physical therapist on evaluation by 17 the physical therapist and shall not continue beyond 30 days 18 from such delegation without further onsite supervisory visits 19 by a licensed physical therapist. 20 Section 2.
