AN ACT 1 Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An 2 act relating to the public school system, including certain 3 provisions applicable as well to private and parochial 4 schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the 5 laws relating thereto," authorizing intermediate units to 6 establish a pool of educational advisors for certain school 7 districts. 8 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 9 hereby enacts as follows: 10 Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known 11 as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a 12 section to read: 13 Section 117. Educational Advisors.--(a) Each intermediate 14 unit may establish and coordinate a pool of educational advisors 15 to provide assistance to any school district or school assigned 16 to the intermediate unit and identified for school improvement 17 or corrective action. 18 (b) Upon request of a board of school directors of an 19 eligible school district, the board of directors of an 20 intermediate unit that has established a pool of educational
1 advisors under subsection (a) shall assign an educational 2 advisor or advisors to the school district. 3 (c) An educational advisor assigned to a school district 4 shall have such duties as the board of school directors may 5 require. Such duties may include: 6 (1) Coordination of a program of continuing professional 7 education for professional employes of the school district. 8 (2) Assisting in the design of an amended professional 9 education plan. 10 (3) Mentoring of professional employes of the school 11 district. 12 (4) Assisting in the development and implementation of the 13 school improvement or corrective action plan. 14 (d) (1) To qualify as an educational advisor, an individual 15 must either be in active school service or an annuitant as 16 defined in 24 Pa.C.S. § 8102 (relating to definitions) and must: 17 (i) Be a properly certificated professional employe. 18 (ii) Have at least five (5) years of experience as a teacher 19 or as an administrator in a public school entity in this 20 Commonwealth. 21 (iii) Have never received an unsatisfactory rating as 22 provided for in section 1123. 23 (2) Return to service by an annuitant under this section 24 shall be deemed a return to school service during emergency for 25 the purposes of 24 Pa.C.S. § 8346 (relating to termination of 26 annuities). 27 Section 2.
