        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 7, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Philadelphia Phillies' remarkable achievement in
     2     clinching the National League East division title for the
     3     second consecutive year with their 4-3 victory over the
     4     Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park on September 27,
     5     2008.

     6     WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Phillies posted a 92-70 season
     7  record to finish in first place in the National League East
     8  Division for the second consecutive year; and
     9     WHEREAS, On September 27, 2008, the Philadelphia Phillies
    10  completed their impressive season by defeating the Washington
    11  Nationals 4-3 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia; and
    12     WHEREAS, During the course of the season, the Philadelphia
    13  Phillies led the league in home runs with 212 and had a team
    14  batting average of .255, a pitching staff ERA of 3.89, 1,073


     1  strikeouts and a fielding percentage of .985; and
     2     WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Phillies' participation in the
     3  National League playoffs began on October 1, 2008, at Citizens
     4  Bank Park in a series against the Milwaukee Brewers; and
     5     WHEREAS, Stellar leadership by manager Charlie Manuel and
     6  outstanding hitting, pitching and fielding by the players have
     7  characterized the team's quest for the World Series Championship
     8  thus far; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
    10  Philadelphia Phillies' remarkable achievement in clinching the
    11  National League East division title with their 4-3 victory over
    12  the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park on September 27,
    13  2008; and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
    15  Philadelphia Phillies for making the playoffs for the second
    16  consecutive year; and be it further
    17     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives wish the
    18  Philadelphia Phillies good luck and best wishes as the team
    19  continues its championship season all the way to the World
    20  Series.
