        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 8, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating November 1, 2008, as "Random Acts of Kindness Day"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, On October 31, 2007, Philadelphia Police Officer
     4  Charles Cassidy was fatally wounded in the line of duty; and
     5     WHEREAS, Officer Cassidy selflessly served the City of
     6  Philadelphia for more than 25 years and sacrificed his life for
     7  the city he loved so much; and
     8     WHEREAS, Since the death of Officer Cassidy, Philadelphia has
     9  mourned the loss of four police officers whose courage and honor
    10  will be remembered forever by their families and friends; and
    11     WHEREAS, Police Officer Walter T. Barclay, Jr., Sergeant
    12  Stephen Liczbinski, Police Officer Isabel Nazario and Sergeant
    13  Patrick McDonald all lost their lives while serving and
    14  protecting the people of Philadelphia; and


     1     WHEREAS, Gun violence selfishly continues to take the lives
     2  of the very people who are sworn to protect and restore order in
     3  our communities; and
     4     WHEREAS, It is important for the citizens of this
     5  Commonwealth to remember all victims of crime and to express
     6  this remembrance through acts of random kindness; therefore be
     7  it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
     9  November 1, 2008, as "Random Acts of Kindness Day" as a day of
    10  remembrance of Police Officer Charles Cassidy, Police Officer
    11  Walter T. Barclay, Jr., Sergeant Stephen Liczbinski, Police
    12  Officer Isabel Nazario, Sergeant Patrick McDonald and all the
    13  victims of crime in this Commonwealth.
