        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 6, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of October 20 through 24, 2008, as
     2     "National Business Women's Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Working women constitute 66 million of this nation's
     4  work force and they strive to serve their communities, their
     5  states and their nation in professional, civic and cultural
     6  capacities; and
     7     WHEREAS, Women-owned businesses account for 28% of all United
     8  States businesses, generating $1.15 trillion in sales; and
     9     WHEREAS, In 1928, President Herbert Hoover designated the
    10  third week of October as "National Business Women's Week"; and
    11     WHEREAS, The major goals of Business and Professional
    12  Women/USA are to promote equality for all women and to help

     1  create better conditions for working women through the study of
     2  social, educational, economic and political issues; and
     3     WHEREAS, For 75 years, various women's business groups have
     4  been spotlighting the achievements and contributions of working
     5  women during "National Business Women's Week"; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
     7  week of October 20 through 24, 2008, as "National Business
     8  Women's Week" in Pennsylvania.
