INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, SEPTEMBER 23, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Commemorating the Delaware Water Gap Fire Department Chemical 2 and Hose Company No. 1 on its centennial anniversary during 3 2008. 4 WHEREAS, Founded in 1908, the Delaware Water Gap Fire 5 Department Chemical and Hose Company No. 1 is currently 6 celebrating 100 years of distinguished service to the community; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, The Delaware Water Gap Fire Department was 9 originally formed in January 1908, and soon thereafter an 10 application was submitted for a charter; and 11 WHEREAS, On July 6, 1908, the president of the State 12 Firemen's Association installed the first officers of the 13 company, and funding was raised the following month to purchase
1 the company's first 250 feet of fire hose; and 2 WHEREAS, In March 1910, a groundbreaking ceremony was held 3 for the construction of a two-story building to house the fire 4 department; and 5 WHEREAS, In 1926, the Delaware Water Gap Fire Department 6 purchased its first motorized fire apparatus; and 7 WHEREAS, In 1969, land was donated to the fire department, 8 upon which a new building was erected to accommodate the growing 9 department, including a hall for fundraising events; and 10 WHEREAS, In 1994, the company received and approved an 11 application for its first female firefighter who, in 2006, 12 became the first female fire chief in Delaware Water Gap and 13 Monroe County and the seventh in this Commonwealth; and 14 WHEREAS, The company has dutifully served the needs of the 15 greater Delaware Water Gap community over the years by 16 continually updating its equipment and operations and expanding 17 its range of emergency services; therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 19 Delaware Water Gap Fire Department Chemical and Hose Company No. 20 1 on the occasion of its centennial anniversary and recognize 21 its 100 years of historic service and advancements in this 22 Commonwealth; and be it further 23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the 24 century of volunteers of the Delaware Water Gap Fire Department 25 Chemical and Hose Company No. 1 who have faithfully and 26 selflessly served their community by dedicating their lives to 27 protecting their fellow Pennsylvanians; and be it further 28 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 29 the Delaware Water Gap Fire Department Chemical and Hose Company 30 No. 1., Main Street, Route 611, Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania 20080H0899R4399 - 2 -
