                                  A RESOLUTION

1 Recognizing September 23, 2008, as "National Hunting and Fishing
     2 Day" in Pennsylvania.

3 WHEREAS, Conserving this Commonwealth's natural and wildlife
4 resources is one of the most important responsibilities we owe
     5 to future generations; and
6 WHEREAS, Hunters and anglers were among the first
7 conservationists to realize this responsibility when they saw
8 firsthand, more than 100 years ago, how expanding civilization
9 and unregulated exploitation of our natural resources and
10 wildlife caused disastrous declines in species populations in
    11 this Commonwealth; and
12 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth's hunters and anglers took steps
13 to reverse this trend by supporting laws to stop unregulated
14 exploitation of wildlife and helping to establish game and fish

1 laws for wildlife protection and sound management practices; and
2 WHEREAS, Hunters and anglers also suggested and supported
3 laws to establish special hunting and fishing license fees and
4 taxes on equipment to pay for conservation and protection
     5 programs; and
6 WHEREAS, The idea of devoting a special day to honor those
7 individuals who hunt and fish for their leading role in the
8 conservation of fish, wildlife and other natural resources
9 originated with a Pennsylvanian, Ira Joffe, of Upper Darby; and
10 WHEREAS, Sportsmen have worked the hardest and have paid the
11 most to protect and enhance the natural resources of this State,
12 giving freely of their time and dollars to enhance the riches of
13 this Commonwealth's outdoors; therefore be it
14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
15 September 23, 2008, as "National Hunting and Fishing Day" in
16 Pennsylvania; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
18 Pennsylvanians to participate in the activities associated with
19 "National Hunting and Fishing Day."
