        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           AUGUST 21, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Proclaiming September 27, 2008, as "Friends of the Railroad
     2     Museum of Pennsylvania Day" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania,
     4  a nonprofit organization, was chartered in 1983 to provide
     5  support to this Commonwealth's official Railroad Museum of
     6  Pennsylvania, Strasburg, Lancaster County; and
     7     WHEREAS, Since that time, the Friends of the Railroad Museum
     8  of Pennsylvania has contributed more than a quarter of a million
     9  volunteer hours and more than $14 million in financial
    10  assistance to this Commonwealth's world-class Railroad Museum of
    11  Pennsylvania; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
    13  has worked tirelessly for the preservation of railroad history,


     1  its iron and paper treasures and the education of the public
     2  about the rich, diverse and significant heritage of railroading
     3  and railroaders in this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, The Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
     5  has been instrumental in the expansion of Rolling Stock Hall,
     6  the addition of Steinman Station, the addition of Stewart
     7  Junction railway education center, the addition of the
     8  Restoration Shop, the addition of the 1915 Street Scene exhibit,
     9  the renovation of the front entrance, lobby and store and the
    10  acquisition of major artifacts and collections at the Railroad
    11  Museum of Pennsylvania; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
    13  and its members, volunteers, board of directors, advisory
    14  council and staff have played, and continue to play, key roles
    15  in the daily operations and the many outstanding achievements of
    16  the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania; and
    17     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is proud of its past and current
    18  railroaders and railroad industry and the important
    19  contributions made to our economy and the welfare of our
    20  citizens, as represented by the Friends of the Railroad Museum
    21  of Pennsylvania; and
    22     WHEREAS, The Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
    23  is marking its 25th anniversary in 2008; therefore be it
    24     RESOLVED, That it is with sincere appreciation and in
    25  recognition of the Friends of the Railroad Museum of
    26  Pennsylvania's strong commitment to and significant
    27  accomplishments on behalf of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania
    28  and this Commonwealth that the House of Representatives proclaim
    29  September 27, 2008, as "Friends of the Railroad Museum of
    30  Pennsylvania Day" in Pennsylvania.
