        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JULY 14, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending the philanthropic and civic initiative of the York-
     2     based Dentsply International in assisting the Donated Dental
     3     Services program.

     4     WHEREAS, Dentsply International and the National Foundation
     5  of Dentistry for the Handicapped have joined together to support
     6  the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program to meet the oral
     7  health needs of disadvantaged, disabled, medically compromised
     8  and elderly citizens of this Commonwealth; and
     9     WHEREAS, The people served have received comprehensive care,
    10  often involving partial or full dentures; and
    11     WHEREAS, Since the early days of DDS, Dentsply has generously
    12  donated all of the denture teeth that volunteer laboratories use
    13  to fabricate dentures for these patients needing treatment; and
    14     WHEREAS, At least 25,000 people have received dentures, and
    15  Dentsply has provided meaningful financial contributions to

     1  support the volunteers; and
     2     WHEREAS, The DDS program has served approximately 80,000
     3  disabled, medically compromised and elderly people nationwide
     4  who, because of their disabilities, have limited income and
     5  cannot afford needed dental care; and
     6     WHEREAS, The value of donated dental care has been more than
     7  $130 million and approximately $7 in free care has been donated
     8  for every dollar spent on operating costs; and
     9     WHEREAS, This important contribution by Dentsply
    10  International to the well-being of disabled residents of this
    11  nation and this Commonwealth is exemplary and reflects the
    12  highest ethical and humanitarian values; therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the
    14  philanthropic and civic initiative of Dentsply International in
    15  assisting the Donated Dental Services program and urge all
    16  dentists and dental laboratories in this nation and this
    17  Commonwealth to participate in this worthwhile endeavor.
