        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JULY 1, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Congratulating the State System of Higher Education on its 25th
     2     anniversary and for 25 years of significant work in this
     3     Commonwealth.

     4     WHEREAS, The State System of Higher Education (SSHE) is
     5  celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2008; and
     6     WHEREAS, SSHE, with more than 110,000 students, has
     7  historically been the largest provider of higher education in
     8  this Commonwealth; and
     9     WHEREAS, SSHE continues to deliver a four-year college degree
    10  for the lowest tuition and total cost in this Commonwealth; and
    11     WHEREAS, Over the years, SSHE's 14 universities have become
    12  more than their rich history of teachers' colleges, now offering
    13  more than 120 high-quality degrees, including those in high-
    14  demand professions such as information technology and business


     1  and the health professions; and
     2     WHEREAS, Ninety percent of SSHE's students are residents of
     3  this Commonwealth; and
     4     WHEREAS, SSHE has more than 650,000 living alumni, 405,000 of
     5  whom live and work in this Commonwealth as leaders in business,
     6  industry and education in their communities and governments, and
     7  they generate an aggregate annual income of more than $7
     8  billion; and
     9     WHEREAS, SSHE is recognized as one of the premier systems of
    10  public universities in the United States; therefore be it
    11     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
    12  State System of Higher Education on the occasion of its 25th
    13  anniversary and for significant achievements during the past 25
    14  years and express its gratitude on behalf of the citizenry of
    15  this Commonwealth.
