           THOMAS, BRENNAN, HENNESSEY, KULA, BENNINGTON, GEIST, STURLA,
           VULAKOVICH, MYERS, MAHONEY, CUTLER, MUSTIO, PHILLIPS,
           K. SMITH, BEAR, RAPP, RAMALEY, MOYER, SIPTROTH, CONKLIN,

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT, JUNE 20, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the Governor to proclaim the Regal Fritillary
     2     butterfly as the Pennsylvania State Butterfly.

     3     WHEREAS, The only place in the Northeast to witness the
     4  exuberant flight of the Regal Fritillary butterfly is at Fort
     5  Indiantown Gap, home to the Pennsylvania National Guard; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania National Guard's expertise on the
     7  Regal Fritillary butterfly led to a contract with The Nature
     8  Conservancy to assist with the care of this beautiful insect in
     9  its natural habitat; and
    10     WHEREAS, Fort Indiantown Gap is not only a place to witness
    11  these amazing creatures, it is also a thoughtful reminder of the
    12  men and women who have courageously and selflessly fought and
    13  died for our country, our fallen heroes; and
    14     WHEREAS, In many cultures around the world, the butterfly is
    15  the symbol of reincarnation and rebirth; and
    16     WHEREAS, Fort Indiantown Gap is the resting place of many

     1  heroes, and naming the Regal Fritillary butterfly the
     2  Pennsylvania State Butterfly in their honor would be a small
     3  tribute to their ultimate sacrifice; and
     4     WHEREAS, The beauty and grace of this butterfly will serve as
     5  a tribute to our fallen heroes, and it can bring a sense of joy
     6  to all citizens of this Commonwealth; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the
     8  Governor to proclaim the Regal Fritillary butterfly as the
     9  official Pennsylvania State Butterfly.
