        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 6, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating June 10, 2008, as "Muscle Car and Drag Racing Day"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Today this Commonwealth is home to many auto racing
     4  venues that continue to showcase some of the most talented
     5  drivers in motorsports; and
     6     WHEREAS, Motorsports offer racing enthusiasts fun, excitement
     7  and fast-paced thrills at some of the biggest drag racing events
     8  in the nation; and
     9     WHEREAS, Drag racing is a unique and exciting automotive
    10  sports activity that has been a part of this Commonwealth's rich
    11  automotive racing history for decades; and
    12     WHEREAS, Like all racing cars, drag racing cars have greatly
    13  evolved over the years as drivers began to experiment, upgrade


     1  and test their equipment to develop more exotic and powerful
     2  machines based upon increased safety and innovation; and
     3     WHEREAS, Each year, this Commonwealth welcomes dozens of
     4  automotive shows that spotlight hot rods and classic muscle
     5  cars; and
     6     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's racing venues continue to serve as a
     7  source of entertainment and enjoyment among residents across
     8  this Commonwealth, a popular pastime which creates thousands of
     9  jobs for both the local economy and our State; and
    10     WHEREAS, On June 10, 2008, the Motorsports Caucus is
    11  sponsoring an outdoor display of muscle cars and drag racing
    12  memorabilia at Soldier's Grove in the Harrisburg Capitol
    13  Complex; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June
    15  10, 2008, as "Muscle Car and Drag Racing Day" in Pennsylvania.
