        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 27, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing June 28 through 29, 2008, as "American Radio Relay
     2     League Field Day" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, "Field Day" is sponsored by the American Radio Relay
     4  League, a national association for amateur radio; and
     5     WHEREAS, "Field Day" is an annual 24-hour emergency
     6  preparedness exercise that brings together amateur radio
     7  operators from North America and South America who are committed
     8  to assisting their communities in the event of a natural or man-
     9  made disaster; and
    10     WHEREAS, There are more than 29,000 licensed amateur radio
    11  operators in this Commonwealth; and
    12     WHEREAS, "Field Day" tests amateur radio operators' abilities
    13  to set up and operate stations in the field under emergency

     1  conditions; and
     2     WHEREAS, During "Field Day," amateur radio operators try to
     3  contact as many other participating stations as possible,
     4  simulating the fast on-air skills needed to assist governmental
     5  and nongovernmental organizations in emergency situations; and
     6     WHEREAS, During "Field Day," amateur radio operators prove
     7  their readiness for emergencies by operating their equipment
     8  without using any commercial power source; and
     9     WHEREAS, "Field Day" provides the general public with
    10  knowledge about the capabilities of amateur radio; therefore be
    11  it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize June 28
    13  through 29, 2008, as "American Radio Relay League Field Day" in
    14  Pennsylvania.
