INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 2, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating May 7, 2008, as "Arts in Education Day" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The arts allow for us as individuals, families and 4 communities to liberate ourselves in a form of stylistic 5 expression far beyond the simplicity of speaking; and 6 WHEREAS, The arts inspire us to explore beyond cultural norms 7 and barriers that may limit us and to experience creative 8 thought and true diversity in this world; and 9 WHEREAS, The arts provide us with another form of 10 communicating and expressing our innermost thoughts, feelings, 11 values and desires; and
1 WHEREAS, Citizens rely on the arts to transcend cultural 2 barriers, evoke universal emotions and reveal to us the ever- 3 changing society in which we live; and 4 WHEREAS, The arts encourage us to develop a deeper 5 understanding of ourselves and our goals as Pennsylvanians, as 6 Americans and as citizens in a global environment; and 7 WHEREAS, The arts enrich many aspects of our lives which 8 encompass the quality of our relationships, education, work 9 environment, homes and communities; and 10 WHEREAS, The arts reach people on many different levels 11 regardless of age, race, background, physical and mental 12 ability, gender, occupation or class; and 13 WHEREAS, Arts education, whether in visual arts, music, 14 dance, theater or literature strengthens the development of 15 creativity, discipline and cognitive and social skills that are 16 crucial in the preparation of all Pennsylvania's students for 17 future growth; and 18 WHEREAS, Arts educators provide our youths with the cultural 19 education and intricate fundamentals to make them well-rounded 20 individuals; and 21 WHEREAS, Arts education programs in our schools enable young 22 men and women to discover, cultivate and share unique talents as 23 gifts to society; and 24 WHEREAS, It is our privilege, enterprise and duty to sustain 25 the gift of the arts, to enjoy it, to share it, to build upon it 26 and to pass it on to future generations; therefore be it 27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 7, 28 2008, as "Arts in Education Day" in Pennsylvania as a time to 29 recognize the arts and arts educators and supporters for 30 continued preservation and further development of the arts in 20080H0720R3647 - 2 -
