        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 2, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of June 8 through 14, 2008, as "Charcot-
     2     Marie-Tooth Association Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is the most common
     4  inherited neurological disorder, affecting approximately 2.7
     5  million individuals in the world; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) is
     7  honoring Head Football Coach Joe Paterno of The Pennsylvania
     8  State University at the CMTA STAR Dinner on June 11, 2008, in
     9  State College; and
    10     WHEREAS, The CMTA in Chester has educated and served this
    11  Commonwealth for more than 20 years; and
    12     WHEREAS, While there is no cure for CMT, physical therapy
    13  improves the muscle strength and endurance of persons with CMT;
    14  and

     1     WHEREAS, The CMTA is leading the charge for educational
     2  programs dedicated to training doctors at medical colleges in
     3  this Commonwealth to identify and treat CMT symptoms; therefore
     4  be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
     6  week of June 8 through 14, 2008, as "Charcot-Marie-Tooth
     7  Association Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
