INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 1, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Memorializing the Governor to proclaim the seven days of May 2 2 through May 9, 2008, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims 3 of the Holocaust." 4 WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945, six million Jews were murdered in 5 the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic program of genocide, 6 and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and 7 WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always 8 remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such 9 horrors are never repeated and should continually rededicate 10 themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and 11 WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain 12 eternally vigilant against all tyranny and recognize that
1 bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and 2 WHEREAS, Friday, May 2, 2008, has been designated 3 internationally as a "Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi 4 Holocaust," known as Yom Hashoah; and 5 WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this 6 Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration; 7 therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize 9 Governor Edward G. Rendell to proclaim the seven days of May 2 10 through May 9, 2008, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of 11 the Holocaust" in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in the 12 hope that we will strive always to overcome prejudice and 13 inhumanity through education, vigilance and resistance.
