        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 27, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the life of Bradley Paul Holmes and extending
     2     condolences on the loss of his life while responding to a
     3     fire as a member of the crew of Pine Township's Engine
     4     Company No. 85.

     5     WHEREAS, Bradley Paul Holmes, 21, of Grove City, a Pine
     6  Township Engine Company volunteer fireman, lost his life on
     7  March 5, 2008, due to burns suffered over 75% of his body; and
     8     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes responded to a structure fire call with
     9  the Pine Township Engine Company No. 85 on February 29, 2008, to

     1  a two-story duplex along with five other fire and rescue
     2  companies; and
     3     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes and another Pine Township firefighter,
     4  while performing a search and rescue on survivors, were trapped
     5  on the second floor of the burning home for several minutes
     6  until they were pulled from the fire by a rapid intervention
     7  team; and
     8     WHEREAS, Because of his burns, Mr. Holmes was placed on a
     9  ventilator, heavily sedated and put in a medically induced coma,
    10  flown to the Birmingham Trauma and Burn Center at the UPMC Mercy
    11  Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he was listed in critical
    12  condition; and
    13     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes died as a result of his burns on March 5,
    14  2008; and
    15     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes had joined Pine Township Engine Company
    16  No. 85 as a junior member at the age of 17 in May 2004; and
    17     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes went full-time a year later in 2005,
    18  after he turned 18; and
    19     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes also served as the department's president
    20  and was one of the department's most active members for the last
    21  several years; and
    22     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes received nearly 12 certificates for his
    23  training through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Butler
    24  County Community College and the Pennsylvania State Fire
    25  Academy; and
    26     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes was also a junior at Slippery Rock
    27  University, where he was taking computer science courses; and
    28     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes was a 2004 graduate of Grove City High
    29  School with a solid academic record; and
    30     WHEREAS, Mr. Holmes was born May 14, 1986, in Grove City to

     1  Joseph N. and Deborah K. Holmes; and
     2     WHEREAS, As a final farewell, more than 400 firefighters from
     3  all areas of western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio walked blocks
     4  to the funeral home to pay respects to their fallen colleague;
     5  therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of
     7  Bradley Paul Holmes and extend condolences for the loss of his
     8  life while performing his duties as a firefighter with Pine
     9  Township Engine Company No. 85.
