INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 27, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Saluting the Honorable Catherine Baker Knoll, our Commonwealth's 2 first woman Lieutenant Governor, on the occasion of "Women's 3 History Month," March 2008, for her pioneering and enduring 4 public service. 5 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes Lieutenant 6 Governor Knoll's distinguished leadership in politics and 7 representative government and her special contributions to the 8 progress of women in our Commonwealth; and 9 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Knoll has galvanized a diverse 10 constituency of Commonwealth citizens and officials in her work 11 as the highest-ranking female executive in Commonwealth history;
1 and 2 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Knoll, who was sworn into office 3 on January 21, 2003, and January 16, 2007, has vowed to make our 4 Commonwealth the "home of high expectations"; and 5 WHEREAS, Having recognized the family as a basic governing 6 unit, Lieutenant Governor Knoll inspires and supports the 7 exemplary citizenship and public service of all Commonwealth 8 residents; and 9 WHEREAS, First elected to Statewide office as State Treasurer 10 in 1988, Lieutenant Governor Knoll was a driving force in 11 increasing efficiency and expanding Commonwealth investments 12 during her eight-year tenure; and 13 WHEREAS, As State Treasurer, Lieutenant Governor Knoll 14 notably created greater opportunities in higher education 15 through the inception of the Tuition Account Program; and 16 WHEREAS, In November 2007 Lieutenant Governor Knoll accepted 17 the Women in Government Presidential Leadership Award on behalf 18 of the National Lieutenant Governors Association; and 19 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Knoll respectfully acknowledges 20 the work of women who have made a difference in the arts, 21 business, education and government; and 22 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Knoll unfailingly applauds the 23 strides of women in history and encourages girls and women in 24 their own pathways; therefore be it 25 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives salute the 26 Honorable Catherine Baker Knoll, our Commonwealth's first woman 27 Lieutenant Governor, on the occasion of "Women's History Month," 28 March 2008, for her pioneering and enduring public service; and 29 be it further 30 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 20080H0667R3482 - 2 -
