        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 12, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating March 20, 2008, as "Volunteer Forest Firefighter and
     2     Forest Fire Warden Day" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, There are an estimated 10,000 trained volunteer
     4  woodland firefighters and 2,000 active volunteer Forest Fire
     5  Wardens in this Commonwealth; and
     6     WHEREAS, These volunteers, often from rural fire companies
     7  that face tight budgets and limited membership, cover more than
     8  17 million acres of public and private woodlands; and
     9     WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters who fight woodland fires must
    10  complete 20 hours of training and buy and maintain special
    11  clothing and equipment at their own expense; and

     1     WHEREAS, As more people move into developments that are
     2  surrounded by woodlands, the protection of these volunteer
     3  forest firefighters, along with the guidance of the Department
     4  of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry, is
     5  important to the health and safety of our citizens and our
     6  natural habitat; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate March
     8  20, 2008, as "Volunteer Forest Firefighter and Forest Fire
     9  Warden Day" in Pennsylvania.
