        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 6, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing March 2008 as "Women's History Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS,In honor of women's history, Pennsylvania seeks to
     4  extol the distinguished accomplishments of women of this
     5  Commonwealth, past and present; and
     6     WHEREAS, An unbiased look at women's roles in history clearly
     7  shows women's courage, commitment and conviction; and
     8     WHEREAS, Since the formation of the American colonies, women
     9  in this Commonwealth have been in the forefront of each new
    10  generation and its advancements; and
    11     WHEREAS, Telling history in ways which recognize the
    12  accomplishments and experiences of women reveals contributions
    13  to the growth and strength of this Commonwealth and this nation;

     1  and
     2     WHEREAS, Twenty-seven women currently hold a position in the
     3  House of Representatives, comprising 13% of members; and
     4     WHEREAS, These women have been recognized nationally,
     5  Statewide and locally for their commitment to public service;
     6  and
     7     WHEREAS, These women and others exemplify leadership,
     8  steadfastness and creativity in the progress of this nation and
     9  Commonwealth into the 21st century; and
    10     WHEREAS, Women, not only in Federal Government, but also in
    11  State government and other fields, are breaking countless
    12  barriers for women and girls across the nation and around the
    13  world; and
    14     WHEREAS, In 1989, the Congress of the United States declared
    15  the month of March as "National Women's History Month"; and
    16     WHEREAS, We, as citizens of the United States, owe an
    17  inexpressible debt of gratitude to the dedicated women of this
    18  nation for their invaluable contributions to this country;
    19  therefore be it
    20     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize March
    21  2008 as "Women's History Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it
    22  further
    23     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend women
    24  members for their service to the Commonwealth with celebrations
    25  in honor of women, past and present, serving in the House of
    26  Representatives and further encourage the future participation
    27  of women in government leadership positions.
