A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp on celebrating 2 its 60th year of summer camping. 3 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp is 4 celebrating its 60th consecutive summer camping season this 5 year; and 6 WHEREAS, The 583-acre camp serves children and adults with 7 special needs, including blindness, deafness and many other 8 physical and mental challenges; and 9 WHEREAS, Some campers have been visiting almost for as long 10 as the camp has existed; and 11 WHEREAS, More than 500 campers visit the camp each year; and
1 WHEREAS, The camp is supported by Lions Clubs and operated by 2 a board of directors comprised of members from each of this 3 Commonwealth's 18 Lions districts; and 4 WHEREAS, The Beacon Lodge's activities include swimming, 5 bowling, miniature golf, arts and crafts, music, drama, 6 spelunking, paddle boating and lawn games; and 7 WHEREAS, The camp was founded in 1948 as a summer camp for 8 blind residents of this Commonwealth; and 9 WHEREAS, The camp has grown into a favorite retreat of people 10 with disabilities as well as a conference center for special 11 groups, an educational facility for families and a rental camp 12 for group retreats; therefore be it 13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the 14 Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp on celebrating its 60th 15 year of summer camping.
