A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the service of Ann Getty DeMoise to her country during 2 World War II and recognizing her role as a pioneering woman 3 in the workforce. 4 WHEREAS, Ann Getty DeMoise was born in Uniontown on August 5 20, 1921, and is 86 years of age; and 6 WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMoise, a member of the Beta Sigma Omicron 7 Sorority, graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington 8 in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in business administration; and 9 WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMoise completed her undergraduate degree in 10 five semesters, instead of the normal eight, participated in the 11 first Westminster College summer semester and was a member of 12 the first co-ed dining hall at the college; and 13 WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMoise married Dr. Felix DeMoise on June 5,
1 1946, a marriage that blessed her with a daughter, Abigail Susan 2 DeMoise Schappell, born May 25, 1952, and a grandson, Jonathan 3 Michael Schappell, born July 27, 1982; and 4 WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMoise's first job was as an assistant to the 5 vice president and treasurer of Gulf Oil, and she was the only 6 female member of the department; and 7 WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMoise's duties included working with bonds 8 and insurance, as well as assisting the families of soldiers 9 injured by exploding tankers during World War II; and 10 WHEREAS, Mrs. DeMoise volunteered for The Salvation Army by 11 providing food and beverages to soldiers as they passed through 12 the local train station; and 13 WHEREAS, During World War II, Mrs. DeMoise was employed by 14 Bendix Aviation in Philadelphia, which at the time was a 15 national defense company; and 16 WHEREAS, While employed by Bendix Aviation, Mrs. DeMoise 17 worked as an assistant to the chief engineer and was the only 18 woman on the team; and 19 WHEREAS, The position required her to be responsible for all 20 of the top secret documents and blueprints used to develop the 21 device that would hide the Enola Gay from Japanese radar during 22 its mission to Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945, thus 23 facilitating an end to World War II; and 24 WHEREAS, After the war, Mrs. DeMoise relocated to York with 25 her husband, a groundbreaking chiropractor, and family; 26 therefore be it 27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize Ann 28 Getty DeMoise for her outstanding service to her country during 29 World War II and for her contributions as a pioneering woman in 30 the workplace.
