        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JANUARY 29, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the month of January 2008 as "Catholic Schools Month"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Roman Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are
     4  celebrating "Catholic Schools Month" in January 2008; and
     5     WHEREAS, Roman Catholic elementary and secondary schools,
     6  educating 183,628 students annually, save State and local
     7  taxpayers more than $1 billion each year; and
     8     WHEREAS, Roman Catholic schools instill in young people a
     9  strong foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and
    10  leadership skills; and

     1     WHEREAS, Roman Catholic schools, in providing young people
     2  with solid values and academic skills needed in becoming
     3  responsible citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a
     4  dropout rate of less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education
     5  enrollment rate of 80%; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the month
     7  of January 2008 as "Catholic Schools Month" in this Commonwealth
     8  and express congratulations and appreciation to Roman Catholic
     9  elementary and secondary schools across this Commonwealth on the
    10  occasion of "Catholic Schools Month" in 2008.
