        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           DECEMBER 18, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating February 6, 2008, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble
     4  background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and
     5  advancing the public good, having been employed as an
     6  entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of
     7  California and President of the United States; and
     8     WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan served with honor and distinction for two
     9  terms as the 40th President of the United States of America, the
    10  second of which earned him the confidence of three-fifths of the
    11  electorate and won him 49 of the 50 states in the general
    12  election, a record that is unsurpassed in the history of
    13  American presidential elections; and


     1     WHEREAS, In 1981, when Mr. Reagan was inaugurated President,
     2  he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by rampant
     3  inflation and high unemployment; and
     4     WHEREAS, During Mr. Reagan's presidency, he worked in a
     5  bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring
     6  accountability and common sense to government, which led to
     7  unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of
     8  Americans; and
     9     WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy
    10  agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug use
    11  in American neighborhoods; and
    12     WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to the United States Armed
    13  Forces contributed to the restoration of pride in the United
    14  States, American values and the values cherished by the free
    15  world, and prepared the United States Armed Forces to meet 21st
    16  century challenges; and
    17     WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led
    18  to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet
    19  Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for millions of people;
    20  and
    21     WHEREAS, February 6, 2008, will be the 97th anniversary of
    22  Ronald Reagan's birth and the third since his passing; therefore
    23  be it
    24     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
    25  February 6, 2008, as "Ronald Reagan Day" in Pennsylvania; and be
    26  it further
    27     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all citizens
    28  of this Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and
    29  participate fittingly in its observance.
