A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring Brigadier General Cecil B. Hengeveld upon his 2 retirement as Deputy Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs. 3 WHEREAS, Brigadier General (PA) Cecil B. Hengeveld was 4 appointed Deputy Adjutant General for Veterans Affairs of the 5 Department of Military and Veterans Affairs on May 29, 2001, and 6 charged with supervising the administration of veterans' 7 assistance to Pennsylvania's 1.1 million military veterans, as 8 well as the operation of the Commonwealth's six veterans' homes 9 and the Scotland School for Veterans' Children; and 10 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld will retire from this assignment 11 on December 28, 2007, and will be recognized at a formal 12 retirement ceremony on January 4, 2008; and 13 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld retired from the Pennsylvania Army
1 National Guard with the federally recognized rank of colonel in 2 1998, and in his last assignment with the Guard, he served as 3 commanding officer of the Eastern Army National Guard Aviation 4 Training Site (EAATS) at Fort Indiantown Gap; and 5 WHEREAS, Born in Allentown, General Hengeveld is a 1964 6 graduate of the Church Farm School in Exton; and 7 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld's education includes a bachelor's 8 degree in professional aeronautics in 1989 from Embry-Riddle 9 Aeronautical University and a master's degree in education, 10 training and development in 1999 from The Pennsylvania State 11 University; and 12 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld enlisted in the United States Army 13 in 1965 and became a warrant officer in 1966, along with 14 receiving his aviator's wings; and 15 WHEREAS, Assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, General 16 Hengeveld served during the Vietnam Conflict for 12 months and, 17 upon his return to the United States, served as a flight and 18 classroom instructor at Fort Rucker, after which he was 19 honorably discharged from active duty in 1969; and 20 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld joined the Pennsylvania Army 21 National Guard in 1970 and received a direct commission to 22 second lieutenant; and 23 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld has served as commander of the 24 1028th Transportation Helicopter Company, branch chief and 25 operations and training officer of EAATS, aviation staff officer 26 in the Guard's State Area Command Headquarters and commanding 27 officer of Army Aviation Support Facilities in Washington and at 28 Fort Indiantown Gap; and 29 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld completed the Infantry Officers 30 Basic Course in 1973, the Armored Advanced Course in 1978 and 20070H0542R3002 - 2 -
1 Command and General Staff College in 1983, and he holds a Master 2 Aviator rating with more than 7,100 flight hours in rotary and 3 fixed-wing aircraft; and 4 WHEREAS, General Hengeveld's military awards and decorations 5 include the Legion of Merit, Air Medal with 30 oak leaf 6 clusters, Air Medal with "V" device, National Defense Service 7 Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic 8 of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Pennsylvania Commendation Medal, 9 Pennsylvania Service Ribbon and General Thomas Stewart Medal; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Brigadier General Hengeveld has, throughout his 12 illustrious military career, served this nation and this 13 Commonwealth with honor, courage and distinction; therefore be 14 it 15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Brigadier 16 General Cecil B.
