A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing the week of December 9 through 15, 2007, as "Bill of 2 Rights Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States, while being 4 an extraordinary map for self-government when it was first 5 drafted, did not contain a specific proclamation of the rights 6 of an individual; and 7 WHEREAS, In response to the Constitution's lack of such a 8 declaration, the first ten amendments, known as the Bill of 9 Rights, were ratified; and 10 WHEREAS, The Bill of Rights guarantees the most fundamental 11 individual freedoms of the American people and has been crucial 12 to the legal and political development of the United States; and 13 WHEREAS, The Declaration of Rights of the Constitution of 14 Pennsylvania also affirms and protects the inalienable rights
1 all citizens enjoy; and 2 WHEREAS, Students across this Commonwealth should be taught 3 about the importance and purpose of the rights declared by the 4 Federal and State Constitutions; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 6 week of December 9 through 15, 2007, as "Bill of Rights Week" in 7 Pennsylvania and urge all people, especially students, to 8 reflect on the significance and effect of these declarations of 9 rights.
