INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 15, 2007
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of October 2007 as "Archives Month" in 2 Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The historical documents and records of our nation 4 and our Commonwealth provide a crucial link to our past; and 5 WHEREAS, Appreciating this heritage and its lessons provides 6 immeasurable guidance for our future; and 7 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Archives is an invaluable 8 storehouse of well over 300 years of unique materials, including 9 the original Charter of 1681, the 1737 Walking Purchase and the 10 celebratory materials for the 100th Anniversary of the 11 dedication of the Capitol; and 12 WHEREAS, This year's theme for American Archives Month is 13 "Celebrating the American Record"; and
1 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives has established an 2 archival repository for the records of elected members, 3 committees and administrative agencies of that body, including 4 an Oral History of former Members of the House; and 5 WHEREAS, These historical records and documents, if not 6 professionally collected, categorized and catalogued by 7 dedicated archivists and staff and housed in secure locations, 8 would be lost to future generations of our citizens; therefore 9 be it 10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the 11 invaluable contribution these agencies and their dedicated 12 employees make to future scholarship; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 14 month of October 2007 as "Archives Month" in Pennsylvania in 15 honor of these agencies and their employees; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all 17 Pennsylvanians to visit their local libraries or archives and 18 learn more about the contributions of historical documents and 19 records to discover the rich heritage of this Commonwealth.
