        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 15, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating October 21, 2007, as "Biomedical Research Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The biomedical research community in the United
     4  States and especially in this Commonwealth is recognized as a
     5  world leader in discoveries which promote health and the
     6  treatment of disease; and
     7     WHEREAS, Biomedical research has helped increase the life
     8  span of people in the United States through the development of
     9  vaccines, antibiotics and anti-infective drugs; and
    10     WHEREAS, Biomedical research has contributed to the
    11  elimination of many epidemic diseases and has helped to prevent
    12  numerous childhood killers in the United States; and


     1     WHEREAS, Biomedical researchers are working diligently toward
     2  cures for Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, acquired immune
     3  deficiency syndrome (AIDS), cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, heart
     4  and lung diseases, mental illnesses, multiple sclerosis and
     5  countless other diseases affecting millions of people in the
     6  United States; and
     7     WHEREAS, Biomedical research has contributed to the health
     8  and well-being of animals through vaccines and has helped the
     9  prospects of endangered species by reducing diseases and
    10  promoting reproduction; and
    11     WHEREAS, Biomedical research offers the best hope for new
    12  breakthroughs in disease detection and treatment; therefore be
    13  it
    14     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
    15  21, 2007, as "Biomedical Research Day" in Pennsylvania in
    16  recognition of the biomedical research community and its service
    17  to this Commonwealth.
