A RESOLUTION
1 Honoring the Philadelphia Phillies' remarkable achievement in
2 clinching the National League East division title with their
3 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank
4 Park on September 30, 2007.
5 WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Phillies were seven games out of
6 first place with 17 games to play in the season; and
7 WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Phillies were unshaken by this
8 daunting challenge and played like true champions to overcome
9 this deficit in only 14 games; and
10 WHEREAS, On September 30, 2007, the Philadelphia Phillies
11 completed their impressive season by defeating the Washington
12 Nationals 6-1 and becoming the 2007 National League East
13 champions; and
1 WHEREAS, During the course of the season, the Philadelphia
2 Phillies overcame numerous injuries to various members of their
3 team and refused to allow it to impede their relentless campaign
4 for first place; and
5 WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Phillies will participate in the
6 National League playoffs for the first time since 1993, starting
7 on October 3, 2007; therefore be it
8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
9 Philadelphia Phillies for making the playoffs despite
10 considerable obstacles; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
12 Philadelphia Phillies' remarkable achievement in clinching the
13 National League East division title with their 6-1 victory over
14 the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park on September 30,
15 2007.
