INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 2, 2007
A RESOLUTION 1 Honoring the life and extending condolences for the supreme 2 sacrifice of Master Sergeant Scott R. Ball of Carlisle, 3 Pennsylvania, who was killed in the courageous service of our 4 country on August 27, 2007, in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. 5 WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Scott R. Ball was killed on August 6 27, 2007, while serving with the Pennsylvania Army National 7 Guard in Afghanistan; and 8 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball was killed when the embedded 9 training team in which he served was ambushed while assisting
1 the Afghan National Army; and 2 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball, was also a Pennsylvania State 3 Police trooper assigned to Troop H, Carlisle, became the second 4 active member of the Pennsylvania State Police killed in 5 military action since World War II; and 6 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball enlisted in the Pennsylvania State 7 Police on September 7, 1999, and graduated from the Pennsylvania 8 State Police Academy as a member of the 106th Cadet Class on 9 March 25, 2000; and 10 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball was assigned to the Patrol Unit at 11 Troop K, Philadelphia, following graduation and later served at 12 stations in Media, York and Chambersburg before joining the 13 Carlise Station on July 6, 2002; and 14 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball was a member of the Pennsylvania 15 State Police Motorcycle Unit and served as a field training 16 officer mentoring new troopers; and 17 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball was a former active-duty soldier 18 and enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1992; and 19 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball had been on military leave from the 20 Pennsylvania State Police since October 2006, and had been 21 deployed to Afghanistan in February 2007; and 22 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball was a graduate of West Perry Senior 23 High School and received an associate's degree from Harrisburg 24 Area Community College; and 25 WHEREAS, Master Sgt. Ball is survived by his wife, Leslie R. 26 Ball, their children, Tyler, age 10, and Allie, age 6, and his 27 mother, Margaret Bertrand; therefore be it 28 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life 29 and extend condolences for the supreme sacrifice of Master 30 Sergeant Scott R.
