        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 27, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the month of October 2007 as "Breast Cancer
     2     Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Women's health is essential to the health of our
     4  families, our communities and our society; and
     5     WHEREAS, The National Cancer Institute reports that an
     6  estimated 178,480 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed
     7  in women in the United States in 2007; and
     8     WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society estimates that
     9  approximately 12,870 new cases of breast cancer will be


     1  diagnosed in Pennsylvania women in 2007; and
     2     WHEREAS, Early detection can give women a five-year survival
     3  rate of 97%; and
     4     WHEREAS, Clinical breast examinations, regular mammograms and
     5  breast self-examinations are the best means of detecting breast
     6  cancer; and
     7     WHEREAS, Throughout the United States and this Commonwealth,
     8  the American Cancer Society, the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer
     9  Coalition and other national, State and local organizations are
    10  working to raise funds, increase public awareness and support
    11  women with breast cancer; therefore be it
    12     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    13  month of October 2007 as "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" in
    14  Pennsylvania to applaud the thousands of professionals and
    15  volunteers in the fight against breast cancer and to encourage
    16  all women to access screening services for early detection.
