A RESOLUTION
1 Congratulating the Borough of Luzerne on the 125th anniversary
2 of its incorporation.
3 WHEREAS, A small settlement began at the foot of the Blue
4 Ridge Mountains in the early 1800s, the present day location of
5 the Borough of Luzerne; and
6 WHEREAS, This area had previously been named Hartseph Hollow
7 and Mil Hollow; and
8 WHEREAS, The water power of Toby's Creek encouraged more
9 settlers and fostered early industry, such as a blacksmith shop
10 and various mills; and
11 WHEREAS, The name of Luzerne was adopted on September 23,
12 1882, when it became an incorporated borough; and
13 WHEREAS, The Borough of Luzerne has flourished and grown into
14 the 21st century, and many major industries are attracted to the
1 area as a result of its geography and hard-working residents;
2 and
3 WHEREAS, The Borough of Luzerne, with many economic,
4 environmental, social, recreational and cultural opportunities,
5 provides a highly desirable quality of life; therefore be it
6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
7 Borough of Luzerne on the 125th anniversary of its
8 incorporation.
