        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 28, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Borough of Millersburg, Dauphin County, on the
     2     bicentennial anniversary of its founding.

     3     WHEREAS, The lovely and bucolic Borough of Millersburg,
     4  Dauphin County, was founded in 1807 by Daniel Miller, formerly
     5  of Lancaster, who purchased land located where the Wiconisco
     6  Creek meets the Susquehanna River from then-owner and
     7  Philadelphian William Von Phul in 1790; and
     8     WHEREAS, Daniel Miller began building in the town and laying
     9  out its design, which was filed in Dauphin County Courthouse in
    10  1807, and his dream of a town along the banks of the river
    11  became a reality; and
    12     WHEREAS, In its early years, Millersburg contained between 70


     1  and 80 buildings, two stores, three churches and several mills,
     2  and it was ideally located for commerce because of its access to
     3  the Wiconisco Canal, the Lykens Valley Railroad and the "Main
     4  Line" of railroad traffic flowing from Harrisburg and because of
     5  its proximity to the rich coal beds of Schuylkill County and
     6  fertile farmland; and
     7     WHEREAS, A full eight-day schedule of bicentennial activities
     8  is occurring from August 27 to September 3, 2007, in
     9  Millersburg, and includes Ned Smith Nature Center activities,
    10  famed Millersburg Ferry events, several exhibits, tours,
    11  parades, auctions, sales days, a community carnival and
    12  fireworks to celebrate Millersburg's past and present; and
    13     WHEREAS, The complete schedule is available at
    14  www.millersburg.com; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Borough
    16  of Millersburg, Dauphin County, on the bicentennial anniversary
    17  of its founding.
